Olympic Champions Errani and Paolini Clinch French Open Women’s Doubles Crown

Paris: Italian duo Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini captured their maiden Grand Slam title as a pair after defeating Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina and Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in a gripping French Open women’s doubles final on Sunday.

The second-seeded Italians, who also claimed Olympic gold on the same Roland Garros court during the Paris 2024 Games, delivered a dominant third-set performance to secure the coveted trophy. The title marks a particularly special milestone for Errani, 38, who also triumphed in the mixed doubles event earlier this week alongside fellow Italian Andrea Vavassori.

In a tightly contested opening set, both teams exchanged breaks midway before Errani and Paolini took control, seizing another break at 5-4 to seal the set. Their opponents, Danilina—who was a finalist at the 2022 Australian Open—and Krunic, mounted a strong comeback, taking the second set with relative ease.

However, the momentum swung once again as the Italian pair stormed ahead in the decider, breaking their rivals twice to build a commanding 5-0 lead. The match concluded with Krunic netting a forehand, handing Errani and Paolini their first Grand Slam title as a team.

Paolini, who reached the singles and doubles finals in last year’s French Open, exited the singles draw in the fourth round this year but now celebrates her first major win in doubles alongside her seasoned partner.
