New Delhi/Islamabad: India is reportedly formulating a strategy to rebalance troop deployment along its borders, two weeks after halting Operation Sindoor in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, Indian media outlet The Indian Express has reported, citing official sources. The move is aimed at avoiding any further escalation of border tensions with Pakistan.
Simultaneously, Pakistan is preparing to return to its pre-April military positions, marking a potential de-escalation after a period of heightened hostility between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. Operation Sindoor remains suspended, and Indian forces continue to operate under a state of high alert.
Sources quoted in the report say that both the Indian and Pakistani armies are engaged in discussions around confidence-building measures, including the gradual withdrawal of additional troops and equipment amassed in the aftermath of the April incident. These reductions are expected to take place within the next two weeks.

While Pakistan had deployed significant reinforcements—both personnel and military hardware—closer to the international border, India refrained from launching any major troop buildup or offensive positioning. Instead, India repositioned some units and equipment from their usual bases to forward operational zones. These assets are now expected to return to peacetime locations.
The presence of additional Indian troops during Operation Sindoor was largely due to administrative actions, such as the cancellation of leaves and restriction of non-essential movements, rather than a show of force.

With signs of a possible thaw, these internal restrictions have now been lifted, and regular military routines are being restored. Short-term training programs that had been postponed due to the security situation will also resume as scheduled, sources confirmed.
This recalibration signals a cautious but deliberate effort by both sides to restore stability and avoid unintended military confrontations along the sensitive frontier.
