London: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is poised to finalize a deal next week aimed at strengthening the United Kingdom’s post-Brexit relationship with the European Union and easing trade restrictions on certain food products, his office announced Saturday.
Starmer will host EU leaders in London on Monday for a summit designed to reset ties with the bloc. Both parties seek concrete progress on key issues while agreeing that some topics will remain off the negotiating table.
Since Britain’s exit from the EU in 2020, Starmer has focused on repairing and enhancing relations with the UK’s largest trading partner, a priority following his Labour Party’s victory in last year’s general election.
Though specifics remain limited, Starmer’s office confirmed the forthcoming agreement will address challenges faced by British producers subjected to checks or export barriers. It is also expected to alleviate difficulties for families confronting increased costs and delays when travelling.

“This week, the Prime Minister will strike yet another deal that will deliver in the national interest of this country. It will be good for growth, good for jobs, good for bills, and good for our borders,” said a statement from 10 Downing Street.
Additionally, Starmer hinted Friday that a youth mobility agreement with the EU might be secured during the summit.

Public opinion polls indicate Brexit’s popularity has waned amid economic challenges and ongoing trade difficulties, underscoring the urgency behind Starmer’s efforts to improve the UK-EU partnership.
