New Delhi/Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation to discuss the robust and evolving Russia-India strategic partnership. According to the official website of the Russian President, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties.
Described by TV BRICS as a “uniquely privileged partnership”, the phone exchange emphasized cooperation across key areas, including counterterrorism efforts. President Putin conveyed his condolences over the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, and as TV BRICS noted, both leaders underscored the importance of continuing joint efforts to combat terrorism.
Prime Minister Modi also congratulated President Putin and the Russian people on the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. As reported by TV BRICS, Modi described the commemoration as a moment of shared historical significance between the two nations.
During the call, Modi extended a formal invitation to President Putin to visit India for the traditional annual bilateral summit. As per TV BRICS, the invitation was warmly received and accepted by the Russian President.

India’s Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, visited Russia from May 8 to 9 to attend the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II (1941–1945).
According to an official release, Sanjay Seth laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and observed the Victory Day Parade alongside other international dignitaries. His participation in the ceremony was described as a strong symbol of the long-standing special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia.

During the visit, the Minister of State called on President Putin and extended formal congratulations on the occasion of the 80th Victory Day. He also held bilateral talks with Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin. In the meeting, the Minister thanked Russia for its support in India’s fight against state-sponsored cross-border terrorism.
Both sides discussed wide-ranging military and military-technical cooperation, agreeing to deepen engagements through established institutional mechanisms. The discussions also reaffirmed their commitment to regular consultations and enhanced cooperation amid evolving global dynamics.
