Gretchen Walsh Shatters Her Own 100m Butterfly World Record

New York: Gretchen Walsh, the American swimming sensation, broke her own world record in the 100 meters butterfly on Saturday during the preliminary round of the Tyr Pro Swim Series in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The 22-year-old touched the wall in a remarkable 55.09 seconds, slicing nine hundredths of a second off her previous record set at the U.S. Olympic trials in June.

Her latest feat came just a day after she rewrote the American record in the 50 meters butterfly, posting a blistering 24.93 seconds. That performance made her the second-fastest woman in history in the event.

Walsh, who played a pivotal role in securing Olympic gold for the United States in both the 4x100m medley and 4x100m mixed medley relays in Paris last year, has firmly established herself as a dominant force in sprint butterfly events. With the 50m butterfly set to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Games, she is widely viewed as a leading contender for the title.
