BSF Intercepts Pakistani Ranger at Rajasthan Border; Diplomatic Efforts Continue for Release of Indian Soldier

In another concerning development, cross-border firing has escalated in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jaipur: Amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, the Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended a Pakistani Ranger near the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan, as reported by official sources to Indian news agency PTI.

The Pakistani Ranger is currently in the custody of the BSF’s Rajasthan frontier, and investigations are underway regarding the circumstances of his presence on Indian territory.

Ongoing Detention of BSF Soldier by Pakistani Rangers

This development comes nearly two weeks after the detention of BSF Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw by Pakistani Rangers along the international border in Punjab. Shaw had crossed the border inadvertently on April 23. Despite repeated diplomatic protests and appeals from India, Pakistan has yet to return the soldier. Over the past week, several flag meetings and talks have been conducted in an attempt to secure Shaw’s release, but these efforts have yielded no results.

Escalation Along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir

In another concerning development, cross-border firing has escalated in Jammu and Kashmir. During the night of May 3–4, Pakistani Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control (LoC) in various sectors, including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. The Indian Army responded promptly and proportionately to these provocations.
