Mumbai – Acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui delivered not just an electrifying performance but also displayed real-life heroism during the shoot of Costao, the action-packed thriller now streaming on Zee5. First-time feature director Sejal Shah opened up about a harrowing incident that unfolded mid-shoot, turning an already tense stunt into a dangerously real ordeal.
In a recent interview, Shah recounted a jaw-dropping moment during the filming of a high-speed bike chase, now gaining viral attention for both its execution and the behind-the-scenes story. Shot in tight, congested lanes that upped the ante for the production crew, the stunt saw Nawazuddin perform without a stunt double—an impressive feat in itself.
“It was a risky chase scene, and Nawaz rode the bike himself without using a double”, said Shah, praising the actor’s unwavering dedication.
But the real drama began when the bike’s brakes failed mid-sequence—something the crew didn’t realize until the take was complete.
“He kept going and didn’t let anyone panic. It was only after I yelled ‘cut’ that he calmly told us the brakes were gone,” Shah revealed.
Despite the looming danger, Nawazuddin maintained his composure throughout, not only ensuring the safety of the crew but also delivering a take that now stands out as one of the most gripping moments in the film. Shah emphasized that it was this kind of instinct and discipline that sets Nawazuddin apart. “It’s that kind of professionalism that elevates a film”, she added.
Costao, a taut blend of emotion, tension, and edge-of-the-seat thrills, has been steadily climbing the charts on Zee5, with audiences praising its story, direction, and powerful performances. The behind-the-scenes revelation about Nawazuddin’s near-disaster only adds to the intrigue surrounding the film.
Sejal Shah, who makes her feature directorial debut with Costao, is no stranger to compelling narratives. Her previous credits include critically acclaimed titles such as Delhi Crime Season 2, Asur 2, Decoupled, and Serious Men, the latter earning Nawazuddin an International Emmy nomination.
With Costao, Shah brings her signature visual flair and narrative intensity to the big screen, reinforcing her place among the industry’s most promising directorial voices.
As the film continues to trend on streaming platforms and social media, it’s clear that Costao is not just a gripping thriller—it’s also a testament to what happens when real-world courage meets cinematic craft.
