Weeks After Visiting Pahalgam, Ishaan Khatter Appeals for Peace and Justice

Mumbai: In the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, actor Ishaan Khatter has expressed deep sorrow and appealed for unity among Indians, urging the nation to rise above hatred and uphold its shared humanity. The actor, who had visited Pahalgam just weeks prior to the tragedy, shared a heartfelt message on social media, highlighting the beauty of the region and the warmth of its people.

Ishaan had traveled to the picturesque valley two months ago to shoot the music video Pyaar Aata Hai alongside co-star Tara Sutaria. The shoot took place in Pahalgam, often referred to as “Mini Switzerland” for its stunning landscapes and serene atmosphere—now shattered by the recent violence.

Taking to Instagram, Ishaan wrote:
“On a personal note, I’d like to say this. I was in Pahalgam barely 2 months ago. I have always felt a deep connection and love for Kashmir and have always found the people to be kind and helpful. I’ve met some beautiful souls there. My heart aches to imagine the loss that the victims of these awful attacks are facing”.

He continued with a poignant reflection on the situation in Kashmir:
“Let’s not forget Kashmir has long been damaged. A place that is often called heaven on earth is deeply wounded by acts like these and the lives of its people indelibly affected. We stand to be tested not for our politics, not for our religion but for our HUMANITY”.

The actor concluded his message by emphasizing the need for justice and compassion:
“Let’s never forget and let’s direct our collective anger towards accounting for JUSTICE and not blind hatred. Let’s be what these pathetic assailants want us to forget we really are – Human beings, with sensitivity, reasoning and thoughtfulness”.

About the Attack

On April 22, a brutal terror attack claimed the lives of 26 people, including tourists, at Baisaran in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The attack has been described as one of the deadliest incidents in the region since the 2019 Pulwama bombing. The scenic area, popular with domestic and international tourists, was turned into a scene of tragedy and mourning.

In immediate response, the Indian government initiated strong diplomatic and strategic countermeasures. These include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, downgrading diplomatic ties with Pakistan, and revoking all visas issued to Pakistani nationals effective April 27. Indian citizens currently residing in Pakistan have been advised to return home promptly amid escalating tensions.

As the country reels from the shock of this heinous act, voices like Ishaan Khatter’s serve as a reminder that unity, empathy, and the pursuit of justice must remain at the heart of the national conscience.
