Jeddah – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underlined the vast potential of India’s partnership with Saudi Arabia, describing the Kingdom as a “trusted friend and strategic ally”. Ahead of his two-day visit to Jeddah, Modi emphasized the strength and future scope of bilateral ties, calling the India-Saudi relationship a “pillar of stability” in a world grappling with uncertainties.
In an exclusive interview with Arab News, Prime Minister Modi shared his vision for the partnership, expressing optimism about the deepening ties between the two nations. “In a world full of uncertainties, our bond stands strong, as a pillar of stability”, he said.
This marks Prime Minister Modi’s third visit to the Kingdom since 2016—more than all his predecessors combined over seven decades—highlighting his commitment to strengthening ties with Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region. This visit is also his 15th to a Gulf country since assuming office in 2014, showcasing a strategic pivot in India’s foreign policy towards the Arab world.
The PM highlighted the significant expansion of bilateral relations since the formation of the Strategic Partnership Council in 2019, a high-level mechanism aimed at accelerating cooperation in key areas. “Our partnership has limitless potential”, he affirmed, underlining the importance of collaboration in areas such as energy, agriculture, fertilizers, and emerging sectors like green hydrogen and advanced technology.
Modi praised Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for his visionary leadership and his transformative Vision 2030 reform agenda. “Every time I have met him, His Royal Highness has left a deep impression on me. His insights, his forward-thinking vision, and his passion for fulfilling the aspirations of his people are truly remarkable”, he said.
Bilateral trade between India and Saudi Arabia has witnessed significant growth, even amid global economic challenges. Indian companies continue to maintain a strong presence across various industries within the Kingdom, reinforcing the robustness of commercial ties.
Another landmark achievement is the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC), unveiled during the G20 Summit in September 2023. Modi described it as “a key catalyst of commerce, connectivity, and growth in the entire region”. The corridor is expected to revolutionize logistics and trade, linking South Asia with the Middle East and Europe through strategic infrastructure.
Prime Minister Modi also extended his congratulations to Saudi Arabia for securing the hosting rights for two major global events—World Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup 2034—applauding the Kingdom’s growing stature on the world stage.
Defense cooperation has also become a cornerstone of the strategic relationship, with increasing joint military exercises and security engagements underscoring mutual trust and shared priorities in regional security.
As PM Modi departs for Jeddah, his visit marks another step forward in a deepening partnership rooted in mutual respect, economic opportunity, and shared aspirations for regional stability and global progress.
