Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has once again found himself at the center of a serious security scare after a death threat was received by Mumbai’s Worli Traffic Control Room on Sunday via WhatsApp. The anonymous message claimed the actor would be assassinated at his home and that a bomb would be planted in his vehicle.
The Mumbai Police promptly launched an investigation and registered an FIR at the Worli Police Station under sections 351(2) and 351(3) of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Providing updates on the case, Mumbai Police said,
“The number was traced to belong to a 26-year-old man in a village near Vadodara in Gujarat. The man has been sent a notice for investigation. He has been asked to appear before Worli Police within 2-3 days. It is also being claimed that the man is mentally unstable and is under treatment. The matter is being investigated by Worli Police”.
The suspect, identified but unnamed due to legal and medical privacy concerns, is reportedly mentally ill and undergoing treatment. A formal notice has been served, and he is expected to report for questioning within the next few days.
Meanwhile, security has been significantly increased outside Salman Khan’s residence, given the nature of the threat and the actor’s history of similar incidents. Mumbai Police emphasized the gravity of the threat message:
“Threat sent to WhatsApp number of Transport Department in Worli, Mumbai. It was given on Sunday. Actor Salman Khan was threatened with death by barging into his house. There was also a threat to blow up actor Salman Khan’s car with a bomb”.
Speaking to ANI, DCP Zone 3 Datta Kamble confirmed:
“A threat message was received for Salman Khan on Worli Transport Department’s WhatsApp number yesterday. A case was registered in the matter. Investigation underway”.
This is not the first instance of Salman Khan receiving such threats. In November last year, Mumbai Police received threatening messages believed to be from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, demanding that Khan either apologize or pay a ransom of Rs 5 crore to remain safe. One message read that Khan would be killed if he didn’t go to the gang’s temple and apologize. Another threat demanded Rs 2 crore, warning of dire consequences if demands weren’t met.
The persistent threats have prompted a high-level security alert, with Salman Khan currently under Y+ security cover by Maharashtra authorities.
On the professional front, Salman Khan was last seen in the action-packed thriller ‘Sikandar’, alongside actress Rashmika Mandanna.
