Brad Pitt Returns as Cliff Booth in David Fincher’s Sequel to ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’

While Pitt’s return is confirmed, it remains uncertain whether DiCaprio will reprise his role as Dalton in the sequel.

California: Hollywood icon Brad Pitt is set to reprise his Oscar-winning role as Cliff Booth in the upcoming sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, this time under the direction of David Fincher. The highly anticipated project, written by Tarantino himself, is currently in development at Netflix, where Fincher holds an exclusive deal.

The Return of Cliff Booth

Pitt’s portrayal of the rugged and charismatic stuntman in the 2019 film earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. The original movie, which followed the fading career of actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his loyal stunt double Cliff Booth, became a cinematic sensation. While Pitt’s return is confirmed, it remains uncertain whether DiCaprio will reprise his role as Dalton in the sequel.

Tarantino’s Script and The Abandoned ‘Movie Critic’

The idea for this sequel reportedly emerged after Tarantino decided to shelve The Movie Critic, which was originally intended to be his tenth and final film. That project was set in the 1970s and centered around a film critic writing for an adult magazine. Tarantino’s novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hinted at Booth’s deep passion for cinema, a theme that could carry over into the new film.

Pitt and Fincher’s Iconic Collaborations

The sequel also marks an exciting reunion between Pitt and Fincher, who have previously worked together on critically acclaimed films like Se7en (1995), Fight Club (1999), and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008). Their collaborations have consistently produced some of the most memorable films in modern cinema.

Tarantino Writing for Another Director

While Tarantino directing his own scripts has been the norm, this isn’t the first time he has written for another filmmaker. He previously penned scripts for True Romance (directed by Tony Scott) and From Dusk Till Dawn (directed by Robert Rodriguez). This upcoming film marks another rare instance of Tarantino entrusting his writing to a director of Fincher’s caliber.

Awaiting More Details

As of now, the title and additional details of the sequel remain under wraps. However, fans of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood can look forward to another thrilling chapter in Cliff Booth’s story, with Pitt once again taking center stage.
