Russia Battles Spreading Oil Depot Fire with Firefighting Trains

A total of 473 firefighters and 189 pieces of firefighting equipment have been engaged in battling the inferno, authorities said.

Kavkazskaya: Authorities in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region deployed firefighting trains on Saturday to contain a massive blaze at an oil depot in Kavkazskaya, ignited by a Ukrainian drone strike earlier in the week.

Regional officials, in a statement on Telegram, confirmed that four specialized trains carrying large volumes of water had been dispatched to the site to support ongoing firefighting efforts. The fire initially erupted last Tuesday and has since required significant emergency resources to prevent further escalation.

A total of 473 firefighters and 189 pieces of firefighting equipment have been engaged in battling the inferno, authorities said. Efforts were further complicated on Friday when a depressurized fuel tank exploded, releasing a torrent of burning oil and intensifying the fire, which had already spread across approximately 10,000 square meters.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, calling it a breach of a proposed ceasefire agreement on energy infrastructure. The truce, negotiated between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump, was aimed at halting strikes on energy sites amid the ongoing conflict. However, the agreement remained limited in scope, as a broader U.S.-backed 30-day ceasefire—endorsed by Ukraine—failed to gain Moscow’s approval.
