Mark Carney to Be Sworn In as Canada’s Prime Minister on Friday

Carney's cabinet is expected to have 15-20 ministers, about half of Trudeau's 37-member executive.

Ottawa: Mark Carney will officially assume office as Canada’s next prime minister on Friday, bringing an end to Justin Trudeau’s tenure after more than nine years in power.

Governor General Mary Simon will preside over the swearing-in ceremony for Carney and his new cabinet at 11 a.m. on Friday, her office confirmed in a statement.

Carney, a former central banker who previously led both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, was elected leader of the Liberal Party on Sunday. His appointment as Canada’s 24th prime minister comes at a pivotal moment for the country, which is grappling with economic uncertainty and navigating a trade dispute with the United States under President Donald Trump.
