Britain to Ban More Kremlin-Linked Individuals in Support of Ukraine

The sanctions come as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer heads to Washington to discuss Ukraine with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday.

London: Britain is set to impose a new wave of sanctions on individuals with close ties to the Kremlin, barring entry to those who have significantly supported the Russian state or amassed their wealth through connections with Moscow. The measures, which will be formally announced on Monday—marking the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine—signal London’s continued commitment to isolating those backing the war.

According to the UK government, the ban will extend to individuals with privileged access to Russia’s highest levels of power, potentially including senior politicians, government officials, and prominent business figures. The move builds on Britain’s existing sanctions against Russian elites accused of bolstering President Vladimir Putin’s war efforts.

British Security Minister Dan Jarvis delivered a stark message to those affected, stating:

“You are not welcome in the UK.”

“The measures announced today slam the door shut to the oligarchs who have enriched themselves at the expense of the Russian people whilst bankrolling this illegal and unjustifiable war,” Jarvis said in a statement.

Both European leaders are expected to urge Trump not to hastily negotiate a ceasefire with Putin under terms that could undermine Ukraine’s security. Their discussions will likely focus on ensuring that European nations remain active participants in any diplomatic efforts and on potential military guarantees for Ukraine.
