Delta Plane Overturns on Landing at Toronto Airport, Injuring Eight

Among the eight injured, one person was reported in critical condition, while the remaining seven suffered mild to moderate injuries.

Toronto: Eight people sustained injuries when a Delta Air Lines plane carrying 80 passengers overturned upon landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, officials confirmed.

Toronto Pearson Airport had been experiencing high winds and freezing temperatures earlier in the day as airlines attempted to recover from flight disruptions caused by a weekend snowstorm that brought more than 22 cm (8.6 inches) of snowfall.

Footage posted by News Channel3 Now captured the Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) aircraft resting upside down on the snow-covered tarmac, with passengers seen walking away from the plane.

Among the eight injured, one person was reported in critical condition, while the remaining seven suffered mild to moderate injuries, according to Peel Regional Paramedic Services Supervisor Lawrence Saindon.

Following the incident, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) temporarily halted all departures.

Toronto Pearson Airport, Canada’s busiest air hub, confirmed that the aircraft had arrived from Minneapolis. Delta Air Lines stated that it was aware of the incident, which involved a flight operated by its regional subsidiary, Endeavor Air.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada, the independent agency responsible for investigating aviation accidents, has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident. Transport Canada, the government agency overseeing aviation safety, said it is closely monitoring the situation.

This incident in Canada follows a series of recent aviation accidents in North America. In late January, an Army helicopter collided with a passenger jet in Washington, resulting in 67 fatalities. Around the same time, a medical transport plane crash in Philadelphia claimed at least seven lives.
