Suicide Bombing Kills Five Outside Afghan Bank in Kunduz

At least five people were killed, including a bank security guard, civilians, and Taliban members. Seven others were injured.

A suicide bombing outside a bank in northeastern Afghanistan has left at least five people dead and seven others injured, local police confirmed on Tuesday. The attack occurred at 8:35 a.m. (0405 GMT) near a Kabul Bank branch in Kunduz province, where a suicide bomber detonated explosives strapped to his body. Among the dead were a bank security guard, civilians, and members of Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban movement, according to Jumma Uddin Khakasr, the provincial police spokesperson.

Authorities have not identified the perpetrators, and no group has claimed responsibility so far. However, Afghanistan has witnessed repeated attacks by Islamic State’s local affiliate (ISIS-K), which has been waging an insurgency against the Taliban government since its return to power in 2021.
