Deadly Car Bomb Explosion in Northern Syria’s Manbij Kills 15

The local Syrian civil defense reported that 14 women and one man died, while the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed 18 women and one man were killed.

MANBIJ, SYRIA: A devastating car bomb attack struck the outskirts of Manbij in northern Syria, claiming the lives of at least 15 individuals and wounding dozens more, according to local civil defense reports and a war monitoring group. Conflicting casualty numbers emerged from the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), which reported a higher death toll, stating that 18 women and one man were killed in the incident.

The explosion occurred on Monday when a car bomb detonated near another vehicle transporting agricultural workers on the edge of Manbij, a city in Aleppo’s northeast. The Syrian Civil Defense, commonly known as the White Helmets, confirmed that 14 women and one man perished in the blast, with another 15 women sustaining injuries, some of whom are in critical condition.

This explosion adds to the ongoing turmoil in Manbij, a city that has remained volatile despite the recent political upheaval in Syria. Following the departure of former President Bashar Assad in December, the area has seen continuous clashes between the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army and the U.S.-supported Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Just days prior, on Saturday, another car bomb attack in Manbij claimed four civilian lives and left nine injured, as reported by Syria’s state news agency SANA, quoting civil defense sources.

The repeated violence underscores the fragile security situation in the region, with no immediate claim of responsibility for the latest attack. As investigations continue, both local and international forces are on high alert, trying to stabilize the area and prevent further loss of civilian life.
