Trump’s Team Prepares Sweeping Executive Orders for Day One of Presidency

President-elect Donald Trump is poised to launch a wave of executive actions targeting immigration, energy policy, and federal operations on his first day in office, marking an aggressive push to fulfill key campaign promises. Speaking at a pre-inauguration dinner Sunday, Trump pledged to sign “close to 100” executive orders within hours of assuming the presidency, many of which aim to dismantle policies implemented by President Joe Biden.

“With the stroke of my pen, I will revoke dozens of destructive and radical executive orders and actions of the Biden administration,” Trump declared. “By this time tomorrow, they will all be null and void.”

Immigration Actions Take Center Stage

Stephen Miller, Trump’s incoming deputy chief of staff for policy, outlined the administration’s immediate priorities during a call with senior congressional Republicans on Sunday. The briefing highlighted sweeping immigration measures, including declaring a national emergency at the southern border to unlock Defense Department funds.

Key initiatives include reinstating the Migrant Protection Protocols, also known as the “Remain in Mexico” policy, and designating several drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. Trump is also expected to revive first-term immigration policies rescinded by Biden on his own inaugural day in 2021.

Federal Government Overhaul

The Trump administration plans significant changes to federal government operations, starting with reinstating “Schedule F,” an executive order that would limit job protections for federal employees. Originally introduced in 2020, the policy was repealed by Biden but will now be reactivated.

In addition, Trump intends to rescind federal diversity, equity, and inclusion mandates while eliminating gender-related executive orders introduced by the Biden administration.

Energy Policy Overhaul

Energy policy will also be a top priority. Trump is expected to declare a national emergency on energy to boost domestic production and roll back permitting rules. The administration plans to target federal lands and regulations to streamline energy development and production.

New Leadership Roles

Miller revealed that Trump will formalize the role of the Department of Government Efficiency, led by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy. The department aims to modernize federal operations, and its staff has been quietly working alongside Trump’s transition team.

Legal Challenges Expected

The bold moves are likely to face swift legal challenges, particularly regarding immigration and federal workforce changes. However, Trump’s team remains focused on executing its ambitious agenda with speed and determination.

The inauguration ceremony, followed by Trump’s address, is expected to provide further details on the administration’s plans for reshaping U.S. policy and governance.
