Prayagraj: A large fire erupted at the Maha Kumbh Mela, a prominent Hindu religious festival in Uttar Pradesh, India, on Sunday. Officials confirmed that the fire was swiftly brought under control, with no injuries reported.
The blaze affected at least 10 tents used for hosting attendees of the festival before emergency response teams managed to extinguish it, according to District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mander.
“At 4:30 p.m. today, we received information about a fire. Fire brigade, police teams, and organizing teams rushed to the spot,” Mander said. He assured reporters that the situation at the event has returned to normal.

The six-week-long Maha Kumbh Mela, also known as the Great Pitcher Festival, commenced last Monday and is renowned as the world’s largest gathering of people. Over 400 million visitors are expected in Prayagraj during the festival, where devotees traditionally bathe at the confluence of three sacred rivers—the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati.
