President Trump’s Day One Agenda: Bold Promises and Controversial Plans

Trump revealed plans for approximately 100 executive orders on his first day, targeting key issues such as immigration, energy policies, and federal regulations.

As the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump approaches on Jan. 20, his plans for the first day in office are taking shape. Trump, who previously declared he would be a “dictator” for the initial 24 hours of his presidency, is preparing an extensive series of executive orders aimed at dismantling the Biden Administration’s legacy.

During a meeting with Republican Senators, Trump revealed plans for approximately 100 executive orders on his first day, targeting key issues such as immigration, energy policies, and federal regulations. Despite the sweeping nature of these proposals, some will likely face legal and legislative hurdles.

Immigration Overhaul: Border Closures and Travel Bans

Trump has pledged to close the U.S.-Mexico border, reinstate travel bans, and halt refugee admissions through immediate executive orders. These measures, spearheaded by incoming White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, are intended to implement stricter immigration enforcement and revive efforts to complete the southern border wall. Trump has also proposed the largest deportation operation in U.S. history and an end to birthright citizenship—a move expected to trigger legal challenges.

Pardons for Jan. 6 Defendants

One of Trump’s most polarizing promises is to issue pardons for individuals convicted in connection with the January 6 Capitol riot. Trump has suggested that non-violent offenders will be prioritized for clemency, though he has not ruled out pardoning individuals with violent charges.

Foreign Policy: Ending the Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Trump has repeatedly claimed he could end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours of assuming office. However, he has recently revised this timeline, indicating a six-month goal for resolving the conflict.

Reversing Biden’s Climate Policies

Trump plans to reverse climate initiatives, including the so-called “electric vehicle mandate” and subsidies for green energy projects. His administration intends to prioritize domestic oil production and lift restrictions on fossil fuels.

Rolling Back Federal Regulations

To address rising costs of goods and services, Trump aims to eliminate numerous federal regulations. He has enlisted Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a “Department of Government Efficiency” tasked with reducing federal bureaucracy.

Social Policies: Transgender Rights and Educational Reform

Trump has promised to ban transgender women from competing in women’s sports and reinstate the ban on transgender individuals serving in the military. Additionally, he plans to cut federal funding for schools teaching critical race theory (CRT) and implementing vaccine mandates. His administration also intends to dismantle federal diversity, equity, and inclusion requirements.

While Trump’s first-day agenda is extensive, many proposals are expected to face significant legal, logistical, and political challenges, leaving questions about how much can realistically be accomplished within his initial hours in office.
