Dublin: A Ryanair flight en route to Vienna, Austria, was diverted to Brno, Czech Republic, late on Monday due to GPS malfunctions and adverse weather conditions, the airline confirmed.
The flight, originating from Riga, encountered disruptions in its GPS system as it traveled over Poland, reportedly linked to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, according to Austrian media outlet Die Presse. The captain informed passengers about the GPS signal disruption and poor visibility in Vienna, leading to the decision to land in Brno.
Ryanair, addressing the incident, stated, “Flight FR748 from Riga to Vienna yesterday Mon. 30 Dec diverted to Brno due to a minor tech issue with the GPS system combined with low visibility (fog) at Vienna.” The airline, however, did not comment on the reported link to GPS jamming. Passengers were safely transported to Vienna by bus after the unscheduled landing.
