Swiss Cabin Crew Member Passes Away Following Flight Smoke Incident

Zurich: Swiss International Air Lines announced the death of a cabin crew member hospitalized after a flight incident involving engine problems and smoke inside the plane. The employee, who had been in intensive care since the December 23 emergency landing, succumbed to his injuries in a Graz hospital.

The flight, an Airbus A220-300 traveling from Bucharest to Zurich, was forced to land in the Austrian city of Graz due to technical issues. Swiss reported that the plane carried 74 passengers, 12 of whom received medical attention. Those hospitalized were discharged shortly after.

Jens Fehlinger, CEO of Swiss, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. “We are all deeply shocked by the death of our beloved colleague. The news leaves us deeply saddened and stunned. Our thoughts are with the young man’s relatives, whose pain must be boundless,” Fehlinger said.

Out of respect for the deceased crew member’s family, the airline withheld further details about his identity and the cause of death.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing. Swiss indicated that initial findings pointed to a technical problem in one of the aircraft’s engines. They are also examining the use of protective breathing equipment by cabin crew during the emergency.
