Paris: France conducted missile strikes in Syria last weekend, targeting Islamic State (ISIS) sites, French Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced on Tuesday.
“On Sunday, French air forces carried out targeted strikes against Islamic State sites based on Syrian territory,” Lecornu stated in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The French strikes came shortly after a similar U.S. military operation in Syria, which reportedly eliminated two Islamic State operatives. Both actions highlight the continued international focus on counterterrorism efforts in the region.

Syria’s political landscape remains volatile following the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group on December 8. The HTS-led campaign marked the conclusion of a 13-year civil war but left Syria facing profound uncertainty. Questions linger over the future of the multi-ethnic nation, where the interests of foreign powers such as Turkey and Russia remain deeply intertwined and potentially in conflict.
