News Delhi: Manmohan Singh, one of India’s most revered statesmen and the country’s first Sikh prime minister, has passed away at the age of 92, according to local media reports on Thursday. Singh, who served as India’s prime minister from 2004 to 2014, was widely credited for steering the nation through an era of economic liberalization and sustained growth.
An accomplished economist, Singh initially rose to prominence as India’s finance minister in the early 1990s. His landmark reforms during this period opened the Indian economy to global markets, earning him recognition as the architect of India’s economic liberalization.
Singh also served as the governor of the Reserve Bank of India, a position that underscored his deep understanding of financial systems. Known for his soft-spoken demeanor and integrity, Singh was admired across party lines.
