Kyrgyz President Removes Prime Minister from Office

Kyrgyzstan, a landlocked and mountainous country in Central Asia, has faced considerable political and social upheaval since gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Bishkek: Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has dismissed Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov, according to a statement released by the presidential administration on Monday.

The official announcement cited the reason for the dismissal as a “transfer to another position.” Akylbek Japarov had held the post of prime minister since 2021, overseeing the government during a period of significant economic and political challenges.

Following the dismissal, First Deputy Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliyev has been assigned to temporarily fulfill the duties of the prime minister, the presidential administration confirmed in a separate statement.
