Israel to Expand Syrian Buffer and Security Zones

: A new "security zone" will be established in southern Syria to enhance Israel's defense.

JERUSALEM — In a significant strategic move, Israel has announced plans to enhance its security measures along its border with Syria by expanding the buffer zone in the Golan Heights and establishing a new “security zone” in southern Syria.

Once Israel secures complete control over the existing buffer zone, operations will extend into creating an additional security perimeter. This expansion is aimed at bolstering Israel’s defense against potential threats from the Syrian side.

Additionally, Israeli forces will focus on disrupting arms smuggling networks that operate through Syrian territory. The military has vowed to target and destroy what remains of Bashar al-Assad’s strategic weapon stockpiles, which include missile systems, rockets, and air defense mechanisms, to prevent these from falling into the hands of hostile groups following the collapse of Assad’s regime.

These actions are part of Israel’s broader strategy to ensure its national security in a rapidly changing regional landscape. The moves have sparked debate about the implications for regional stability and the ongoing Syrian conflict.

Key Points:

  • Buffer Zone Expansion: Israel plans to secure total control over the buffer zone between the Golan Heights and southwestern Israel.

  • Targeting Arms Smuggling: Israel aims to disrupt arms smuggling routes through Syria.
  • Destruction of Assad’s Weapons: The strategy includes destroying Assad’s remaining strategic weapons, like missile systems, rockets, and air defenses.
