Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signaled his openness to accepting a ceasefire with Russia, even if it results in some Ukrainian territories remaining under Russian control. In exchange, he is seeking NATO security guarantees for the areas that Ukraine still holds.
In a Friday interview with Sky News, Zelenskyy suggested that a ceasefire could be achievable if NATO were to provide security assurances for the territories under Kyiv’s control. “If we want to stop the hot stage of war, we should take under NATO umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control. That’s what we need to do fast,” Zelenskyy said.
Focus on Ending the Conflict
The proposal outlines a two-pronged approach to peace: first, NATO’s intervention to secure Ukraine’s remaining territories, and second, a diplomatic resolution for the areas still occupied by Russia. Zelenskyy emphasized that this would help shift focus toward ending the violence that has taken a heavy toll on Ukraine. “Then Ukraine can get back the other part of its territory diplomatically,” he added.

While the prospect of compromise remains complex, Zelenskyy’s willingness to consider a peace deal demonstrates a potential shift toward seeking stability and security for Ukraine’s future.
