At Least 23 Dead in Israeli Airstrike on Lebanon’s Almat, Health Ministry Reports

Israel alleges that Hezbollah militants are staging operations from Lebanese territory, heightening cross-border tensions.

Beirut: In a deadly attack on Lebanon’s Mount Lebanon province, an Israeli airstrike on the town of Almat killed at least 23 people, including seven children, and injured six others, according to the Lebanese health ministry. The ministry warned that the death toll may continue to rise as search and rescue efforts proceed.

Elsewhere in Lebanon, three more people were reported dead and two wounded in an Israeli strike on the town of Mashghara, located in the Bekaa Valley’s western region, late Saturday. Another strike on Sahmar, also in western Bekaa, claimed one life and injured four others, according to the health ministry’s latest reports.

The Israeli military has not yet commented on the attacks, though it has maintained that its recent airstrikes target Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. Israel alleges that Hezbollah militants are staging operations from Lebanese territory, heightening cross-border tensions.
