Tokyo/Monaco: Koki Ikeda, the acclaimed race walker from Japan who earned silver medals at both the Olympic Games and World Championships, has been provisionally suspended due to a doping violation, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Friday.
Ikeda made headlines for his impressive performances, securing second place in the 20-kilometer event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. He also participated in the Paris World Championships, where he finished seventh.

The AIU stated that the suspension is connected to findings from Ikeda’s athlete biological passport, which monitors athletes’ biological variables over time to detect potential doping practices. However, details regarding the timeline for the progression of Ikeda’s case remain unclear, as the AIU has not provided additional information.
