Tropical Storm Oscar Sparks Hurricane Warning for the Bahamas

Nassau: The Bahamas has issued a hurricane warning as Tropical Storm Oscar intensifies, now threatening the region, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC). The storm, which formed east of the Turks and Caicos Islands, is currently situated approximately 165 miles (265 km) east-southeast of the Bahamas and around 470 miles from Camaguey, Cuba.

With maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour (130 km/h), Oscar is gathering strength as it moves toward the Bahamas. The NHC has also reported that the Cuban government has placed the provinces of Guantanamo, Holguin, and Las Tunas under a Hurricane Watch.

The NHC’s latest advisory warns that heavy rainfall is expected over the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas on Saturday, with rain likely to extend into eastern Cuba by Sunday. The agency emphasized that the storm could bring dangerous conditions to the affected regions over the coming days.
