Meta Fires 24 Employees for Misusing $25 Meal Vouchers

The employees attempted to justify their actions by claiming they did not want to waste credits on days when they were not dining in the office.

Los Angeles: Meta, the company founded by Mark Zuckerberg, has laid off approximately 24 employees from its Los Angeles office due to the repeated misuse of the company’s $25 meal credit system, according to The Telegraph. The dismissed employees exploited the meal vouchers, originally intended for in-office meals, to purchase items such as toothpaste, laundry detergents, and even wine glasses.

An internal investigation revealed a pattern of abuse, with instances where employees sent meal vouchers to their homes when they were not present in the office. Among those terminated was a high-earning engineer who acknowledged the repeated misuse of meal credits for non-food items.

The Telegraph reported that the employees attempted to justify their actions by claiming they did not want to waste credits on days they were not dining at the office. However, the investigation categorized the violations as either serious or minor infractions, resulting in warnings for occasional misuse, while those with repeated offenses faced termination.
