Goodbye Android, Hello HarmonyOS: Huawei’s Latest Smartphones Transition to New OS

This shift has been in the works for some time, as Huawei aims to establish a robust foundation for its ecosystem with HarmonyOS Next.

London: Huawei is undergoing a significant transformation in its smartphone strategy, officially transitioning from Android to its proprietary HarmonyOS Next operating system.

The new software has recently launched in an open beta version, initially available in China.

According to the German tech magazine Giga, several of Huawei’s latest flagship models are leading the way in adopting HarmonyOS Next without Android. These models include:

  • Huawei Mate 60
  • Huawei Mate 60 Pro
  • Huawei Mate X5
  • Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2-inch

Additionally, devices previously in a closed beta, such as the Huawei Pura 70 series and the upcoming Huawei Pocket 2, are also receiving updates to the open beta of HarmonyOS Next.

Moving On from Android

This shift has been in the works for some time, as Huawei aims to establish a robust foundation for its ecosystem with HarmonyOS Next. The new operating system will empower app developers to create applications tailored specifically for this innovative platform.

Currently, HarmonyOS Next is exclusive to the Chinese market, and there has been no official announcement regarding its international release timeline.
