Vice President Harris Responds to Sanders’ Remarks on Childlessness with a Powerful Message

Harris underscored the importance of women supporting one another and remarked that family comes in various forms.

New York: U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris firmly countered Republican Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ suggestion that her lack of biological children implies a lack of humility. Speaking on the widely followed “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Sunday, Harris labeled Sanders’ views on family as outdated and emphasized the value of her own “modern family”, which includes her husband, Doug Emhoff, and his two children, Cole and Ella, from his previous marriage.

The comments from Sanders, who moderated a town hall for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Michigan in September, implied that her children keep her “humble”, contrasting with Harris, who “doesn’t have anything keeping her humble”. In her response, Harris stated, “I don’t think she understands that there are a whole lot of women out here who, one, are not aspiring to be humble. Two, a whole lot of women out here who have a lot of love in their life, family in their life, and children in their life.”

Harris underscored the importance of women supporting one another and remarked that family comes in various forms. “We have our family by blood, and then we have our family by love, and I have both, and I consider it to be a real blessing,” she shared. “And I have two beautiful children, Cole and Ella, who call me Momala. We have a very modern family. My husband’s ex-wife is a friend of mine.”

Additionally, Harris addressed JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, who previously expressed his disdain for the idea of the country being governed by “childless cat ladies”. Harris deemed those remarks as “mean and mean-spirited”.

Sanders’ office and the Trump campaign have yet to respond to requests for comment regarding Harris’ remarks.

Harris’s appearance on the podcast was part of a broader media outreach initiative as she aims to bolster her support in the lead-up to the Nov. 5 election against Trump. The vice president’s campaign, which has faced scrutiny over her media engagement, announced that she will be appearing on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” ABC’s “The View”, CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, and “The Howard Stern Show” this week.
