London: British Foreign Secretary David Lammy reiterated the UK’s call for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon after an Israeli airstrike on Beirut claimed the life of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
Lammy said he spoke with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Saturday, following the airstrike. “We agreed on the need for an immediate ceasefire to bring an end to the bloodshed. A diplomatic solution is the only way to restore security and stability for the Lebanese and Israeli people,” Lammy stated on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
Earlier in the week, while addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Lammy emphasized the urgency of a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel. He cautioned that a full-scale war would only further destabilize the region and harm both Lebanese and Israeli civilians.
