Brasília: The Brazilian Supreme Court has issued a ruling requiring Elon Musk-owned social platform X to provide documentation validating its new legal representative in Brazil within five days. This decision, announced on Saturday, follows X’s recent appointment of a legal representative to address one of the court’s demands for the platform to resume its operations in the country.
On Friday, X’s legal team confirmed that it had designated Rachel de Oliveira Conceicao as its legal representative in Brazil. In his ruling, Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes mandated that X submit commercial registries and other pertinent documents to substantiate this appointment.
In late August, Brazil’s top court ordered mobile and internet service providers to block access to X after the platform failed to comply with previous court demands, including the naming of a legal representative. Users were effectively cut off from the platform within hours of the ruling.

Under Brazilian law, foreign companies must have a legal representative to operate within the country, who assumes local legal responsibilities for the firm. X previously maintained a legal representative in Brazil until mid-August, when it opted to close its offices and terminate its local staff.

This decision came after a prolonged dispute between Musk and Judge Moraes regarding the platform’s non-compliance with court orders aimed at addressing the spread of hate speech. Musk has characterized these demands as censorship.
