Kyiv: The ongoing conflict in Ukraine remains a pressing concern not only for Russia and Ukraine but also for the international community. Russia reportedly aims to conclude the war by late 2025 or early 2026, with the intention of securing a decisive victory.
Ukrainian military intelligence has indicated that Russia may face significant economic challenges starting next summer. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) warns that these challenges could trigger a need for mobilization, potentially leading to socio-political unrest within Russia.
Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, emphasized that Russia is determined to achieve victory. He stated that internal Russian documents forecast that major issues will arise in the summer of 2025. According to Budanov, a combination of financial, economic, and socio-political pressures will contribute to these challenges.

In addition, Budanov pointed out that Russia is already experiencing problems with military recruitment. He explained, “During this period (summer 2025), they will face a dilemma: either announce mobilization or somehow reduce the intensity of hostilities, which could ultimately prove critical for them.”
