Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have withdrawn from the West Bank city of Jenin following a 10-day military operation, marking the longest such raid in the region’s history, according to reports from Palestinian media. The Palestinian Authority’s official Wafa news agency confirmed that IDF troops pulled out of the city at dawn.
The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that 21 Palestinians were killed during the operation. Jenin and its adjacent refugee camp, long known as strongholds of Palestinian militant groups, saw extensive damage, with army bulldozers destroying key infrastructure in the area.
The IDF launched the operation, dubbed “Summer Camps,” on August 28, targeting Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror networks in Jenin, Tulkarem, and the Far’a camp near Tubas. The operation aimed to dismantle the Iran-backed terror groups operating in the northern West Bank. According to the IDF, more than 30 gunmen were killed, including the head of Hamas in Jenin and the leader of Islamic Jihad in the Tulkarem area.
The recent surge in violence across the West Bank follows the October 7 Hamas attack in southern Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the capture of 251 hostages. Since then, the IDF has arrested approximately 5,000 Palestinians, with more than 2,000 affiliated with Hamas. Palestinian authorities report over 670 Palestinians have been killed during this period, while the IDF states that most were involved in gunfights or terror-related activities.
In the same timeframe, 29 Israelis, including security personnel, were killed in terror attacks across Israel and the West Bank. Six additional members of Israeli security forces died during clashes with terror operatives.
