PM Modi and President Putin Discuss Ukraine Visit, Strengthen Strategic Ties

Modi briefed Biden on his Ukraine visit, stressing India’s support for a peaceful resolution through dialogue.

New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a conversation on Tuesday, focusing on Modi’s recent visit to Ukraine and the strengthening of their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.

In a post on X, Modi shared, “Exchanged perspectives on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and my insights from the recent visit to Ukraine. Reiterated India’s firm commitment to support an early, abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict.”

Modi had also briefed US President Joe Biden on Monday about his Ukraine visit, emphasizing India’s support for a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.

During his visit to Ukraine, Modi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, aiming to promote a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The visit drew international attention, with the United Nations Secretary-General’s office expressing hope that Modi’s efforts could contribute to ending the war.

Earlier, Modi had discussed the conflict with President Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy on June 14, reiterating India’s commitment to a peaceful solution through dialogue.
