Kyiv: In the early hours of August 20, Russia carried out a coordinated assault on Kyiv, deploying drones and Iskander-K cruise missiles.
According to the Kyiv Military Aviation Authority (KGVA), all incoming threats were intercepted and neutralized by Ukraine’s air defense systems, as reported by RBC-Ukraine. The missiles were intercepted before reaching Kyiv, and the drones were downed without causing any damage or casualties.
RBC-Ukraine reported that this incident marked the 41st air raid alert and the fifth missile attack on Kyiv in August alone.
In addition to the Kyiv attack, Russia launched “Shahed” drones across other parts of Ukraine, with explosions reported in the Khmelnytsky region. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Ukraine has endured continuous assaults from drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. Border regions are particularly vulnerable, frequently targeted by guided bombs and artillery.

Ukraine continues to advocate for more advanced air defense systems and seeks authorization from Western allies to use provided weaponry against Russian targets. However, such permission has not yet been granted, allowing Russia to persist in its attacks on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure.
