Ukraine Escalates Conflict with Major Drone Attack on Russia’s Lipetsk

Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov stated that Russian air defenses managed to intercept and down 29 drones.

Moscow/Kyiv: Early Friday morning, Russian authorities reported a significant Ukrainian drone attack targeting the Lipetsk region in southwestern Russia, about 200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Air Defense Activated Against Drones

Governor Igor Artamonov confirmed that Russian air defense systems were deployed to intercept the drones. While explosive devices were detonated away from civilian areas, a drone crash resulted in damage to local power infrastructure, causing electricity outages in the region.

Digi24 reported that this drone assault is part of a growing pattern of Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. A separate drone attack was also reported in the Belgorod region, near the Ukrainian border.

Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov stated that Russian air defenses managed to intercept and down 29 drones. While the attacks caused material damage, there were no reported casualties.

Escalation in Sevastopol and Kursk

In Sevastopol, Crimea, which is under Russian control, Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev reported drone attacks from both air and sea. This reflects the broader trend of increased Ukrainian military activity in the region.

Additionally, powerful explosions and fires were reported in the Russian town of Rylsk in the Kursk region overnight. The cause of these incidents remains unclear, and Russian authorities have not yet provided independently verified information.

The Kursk region has recently seen intensified Ukrainian military operations, with reports of over a thousand Ukrainian soldiers and numerous armored vehicles engaged in a surprise offensive that began earlier this week. Russian forces are actively working to repel these incursions.
