Berlin: The decision by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to host American missiles in Germany has ignited a firestorm of controversy, drawing sharp backlash from political leaders across the spectrum. The move has been criticized for its lack of transparency and for bypassing established governmental processes, leading to widespread debate and condemnation.
Secretive Decision Under Fire
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s decision to station American missiles in Germany has sparked a wave of criticism for its lack of transparency. Pellmann, a Bundestag member from the Left Party, accused Scholz of bypassing both the Bundestag and his own Social Democratic Party (SPD) in making this decision. Pellmann described Scholz’s unilateral move, reportedly coordinated with Washington, as a “coup-like” approach.
Speaking to RIA Novosti, Pellmann stated, “As far as I know, this was a unilateral decision by the Chancellor, made in agreement with Washington, bypassing the Bundestag and his own party.”

Call for Proper Deliberation
Pellmann also criticized German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius for his remarks that such strategic decisions need not be discussed in the Bundestag in advance. Pistorius claimed that the current scenario differs from NATO’s “dual-track decision” of 1979, which led to massive protests against the deployment of Pershing-2 missiles in Europe.
Pellmann countered, “The current planned deployment of American missiles in Germany cannot be compared to the ‘dual-track decision’ of NATO. This deployment is a threat, ignoring historical context and the current analysis, and is certainly detrimental to Germany.”

Warnings Against Confrontation
Previously, Sahra Wagenknecht, a prominent Bundestag member from the BSW Party (Sahra Wagenknecht’s Union), had emphasized the need to avoid escalating tensions with Russia. She warned that the ongoing strained relations between Europe and Moscow could have disastrous consequences and called for an end to the confrontational stance.
