New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Moscow has stirred reactions globally, including from the United States, which expressed disappointment over the trip. In response, India asserted its autonomy in choosing its international partnerships.
“India has a long-standing relationship with Russia based on mutual interests. In a multipolar world, all countries have the freedom of choice. It is essential for everyone to be mindful of these realities,” stated Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Thursday.
The US criticism followed a statement from a US official who expressed dissatisfaction with Modi’s Moscow visit. “PM Modi, two weeks before his trip to Moscow, also met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 in Italy. We closely monitored Modi’s actions in Moscow and did not observe any new major defense deals or significant technology cooperation discussions,” the official noted.
