London: British police announced on Friday that the human remains discovered in two suitcases at the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol were those of two adult men. The primary suspect is believed to have traveled from London with the suitcases.
The discovery, made on Thursday, prompted a major police operation after authorities received reports of a man acting suspiciously on the bridge just before midnight on Wednesday. The Metropolitan Police in London have now taken over the investigation, with a crime scene established in west London.
Authorities believe the suspect journeyed from London to Bristol earlier in the day, taking a taxi to the bridge with the suitcases. “We’re able to confirm forensic post-mortem examinations are still being carried out on the remains found within the two suitcases, but they are believed to be of two adult men,” Acting Bristol Commander Vicks Hayward-Melen told reporters. “It’s important to stress they have not yet been formally identified and efforts to locate and speak to their next of kin are being prioritised.”
An initial post-mortem was inconclusive, and further tests are ongoing, according to the police.

The Daily Mail reported that a U.S. tourist and his wife, waiting for a taxi near the bridge, witnessed two men struggling to carry heavy suitcases across the road. A woman passerby intervened to help and, after questioning the weight of the bags, asked, “What’s in them? Bodies?”
The Clifton Suspension Bridge, one of Bristol’s most iconic landmarks, was designed by the renowned 19th-century engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1864.
