Cairo: Residents of Gaza City are currently trapped in their homes amidst a relentless barrage of Israeli airstrikes, with bodies lying unattended in the streets, even as international mediators intensify efforts to broker a ceasefire.
Hamas has expressed concern that the ongoing Israeli assault could jeopardize recent progress towards ending the conflict, as diplomatic talks in Egypt and Qatar enter a critical phase.
Gaza City, once home to more than a quarter of Gaza’s population, bears the brunt of renewed hostilities, displacing hundreds of thousands who had returned to rebuild after previous conflicts.
Reports from Gaza’s health ministry indicate numerous casualties and individuals trapped inside their homes in the Tel Al Hawa and Sabra districts, where rescue efforts are hindered by continuous shelling.
“We will not leave our homes,” defiantly stated Mohammad Ali, 30, amidst shortages of essential supplies. “We have endured months of hardship and bombardment. We are prepared to face whatever comes next.”
In the eastern suburb of Shejaia, residents who recently returned find their neighborhoods reduced to rubble following Israeli military operations. The local cemetery, once a place of solace, now reflects the devastation wrought by recent violence.

Hamas has indicated flexibility in accepting certain conditions, while Israel remains steadfast in its security demands.
As negotiations progress, the situation remains dire on the ground, with ongoing military operations and civilian casualties escalating in Gaza City and surrounding areas.
