Sanctions Should Hinder Moscow’s Military, Not Russian Citizens, Says U.S. Ambassador

Previously, Lynne Tracy underscored the U.S. commitment to using diplomatic channels to prevent misunderstandings in bilateral relations.

Washington/Moscow: United States has imposed sanctions on Russia with the aim of curbing Moscow’s military actions rather than punishing ordinary citizens, U.S. Ambassador Lynne Tracy emphasized in an interview with RTVI, as reported by Lenta.

Tracy highlighted the importance of evaluating the long-term effectiveness of sanctions. She explained that as Washington refines its approach to weaken Moscow’s military-industrial capacity, the cumulative impact of these measures will become more evident over time.

“I regret that, to some extent, sanctions have impacted ordinary Russians… This is an unnecessary military conflict, and it has forced Russians to pay an entirely unnecessary price. When I look at all this, I always wonder: what has Russia gained in terms of economic and strategic security?” Tracy remarked.

Previously, Tracy underscored the U.S. commitment to using diplomatic channels to prevent misunderstandings in bilateral relations. She noted that while Washington has expressed readiness for strategic stability negotiations, the Russian side has declined such discussions.
