Indian Navy Takes Center Stage at RIMPAC 2024 with INS Shivalik

The harbor phase of RIMPAC is scheduled from June 27 to July 7, followed by the sea phase consisting of three sub-phases involving various naval exercises.

New Delhi/Honolulu: The Indian Navy has joined the prestigious Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC), the world’s largest naval military wargame, held in Hawaii.

According to the US Navy, this year’s RIMPAC includes 29 nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, over 150 aircraft, and more than 25,000 personnel operating in and around the Hawaiian Islands.

India’s contribution to RIMPAC features the deployment of the frontline warship INS Shivalik.

“Indian multi-role stealth frigate INS Shivalik, currently on mission in the South China Sea and North Pacific Ocean, has arrived at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, to participate in the RIMPAC exercise,” stated Indian Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal.

Commander Madhwal highlighted the diverse participation in RIMPAC, which includes an aircraft carrier battle group, submarines, maritime reconnaissance aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, remotely piloted surface ships, and amphibious force landing operations.

RIMPAC 2024, running until August 1, aims to foster relationships, enhance interoperability, and improve proficiency among participating navies.

“The Indian Navy’s presence with INS Shivalik in RIMPAC-24, positioned 9000 nautical miles from the Indian coast, underscores our capability to operate globally,” added Commander Madhwal.

INS Shivalik, a 6000-tonne guided missile stealth frigate, represents India’s indigenous naval prowess and technological advancement.
