Surveillance footage has captured a startling moment in Alton, Illinois, as a sinkhole measuring 100 feet wide and 30 feet deep suddenly swallowed a soccer field at Gordon Moore Park. The video shows bleachers and a light pole disappearing into the expanding cavity.

Local reports attribute the sinkhole to an underground mine owned by New Frontier Materials. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the incident.

A representative from New Frontier Materials reassured the public, stating, “No one was injured in the incident, which has been reported to officials at the Mine Safety Health Administration in accordance with applicable regulations. Safety is our top priority. We will work with the city to remediate this issue as quickly and safely as possible to ensure minimal impact on the community.”

The sudden appearance of the sinkhole has prompted swift response efforts to secure the area and assess the extent of damage caused by the collapse.
