Netanyahu Seeks Lifelong Shin Bet Security for Family

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu requested that his wife, Sara, and their sons, Avner and Yair, receive lifelong security protection from the Shin Bet, even after his tenure as prime minister ends.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently requested that his wife Sara and their sons Avner and Yair receive lifelong security details from the Shin Bet, even after his tenure as prime minister concludes, according to a report by Walla news.

The request was reportedly made to the Advisory Committee for Personal Security earlier this month. However, the committee indicated that it would not entertain the request “at this time,” as per the report.

Responding to the allegations, the Prime Minister’s Office vehemently denied the Walla report, labeling it as “full of lies and slander about the Netanyahu family and the prime minister.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in an interview with Channel 14 that Israel is open to a temporary ceasefire in Gaza to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. However, he emphasized that the conflict will not conclude until Hamas is dismantled.

“I am willing to consider a partial agreement for the return of some individuals,” Netanyahu affirmed. “But our mission to eradicate Hamas remains unchanged. We cannot cease fighting until this objective is achieved.”

The Prime Minister’s Office clarified that while Israel is willing to pause hostilities for negotiations, Hamas has reportedly rejected the proposed terms.

“Hamas is the obstacle to an agreement, not Israel,” the PMO stated. “Prime Minister Netanyahu has made it clear that Israel will not withdraw until all 120 hostages, alive or deceased, are returned.”

Netanyahu’s remarks to Channel 14 contrast with aspects of the latest ceasefire and hostage negotiations, as outlined in a recent proposal including phases endorsed by US President Joe Biden. The proposal aims for an initial ceasefire, progressing to a sustainable cessation of hostilities, but Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s stance that the war will only conclude after Hamas is neutralized and all hostages are accounted for.

The ongoing conflict underscores Israel’s dual objectives of eliminating Hamas and ensuring the safe return of hostages, amidst regional and international diplomatic efforts.
