A scorching heatwave is engulfing vast regions from North Africa through East Europe, the Balkans, Greece, Turkey, and the Middle East, setting numerous temperature records and intensifying concerns over extreme weather events. Today marked an unprecedented high of 51.7°C in Rabiya, Kuwait, establishing a record for the area. Meanwhile, Nassirya in Iraq also tied its June record with temperatures soaring up to 51°C.
In North Africa, temperatures continue to soar with Algeria, Oman, and the Emirates experiencing relentless heat. Algeria reported temperatures exceeding 49°C once again, with Adrar reaching 49.3°C and Timimoun recording 48.8°C, both setting new records for the month of June. In Saudi Arabia, Alula recorded 47.1°C, marking another June record amidst the ongoing heatwave.

The relentless heat in North Africa has seen daily temperature records shattered since the beginning of 2024, underscoring the severity of this historic heat wave. Areas like Salah in Algeria reported a minimum of 35.9°C and a maximum of 49.0°C, while Krechba, situated 463 meters above sea level, registered a minimum of 34.6°C and a scorching maximum of 47.6°C.
Authorities and meteorological experts are closely monitoring the situation as communities brace for further extreme heat and its potential impacts on health, infrastructure, and agriculture.
