Zelensky Anticipates Ukraine’s Peace Proposal for Moscow Amid International Summit

Among Zelensky's pivotal demands are a complete Russian withdrawal from Ukraine and the prosecution of Russian individuals for war crimes committed during the conflict.

Lucerne: Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is preparing to present a peace proposal to Russia, sparking new hope for resolution amidst ongoing conflict.

Seeking International Support

President Zelensky holds high expectations for the current peace summit in Switzerland, which has gathered representatives from approximately 100 countries and organizations at Burgenstock. Despite Russia’s absence—a disappointment to nations like Turkey—the summit aims to explore pathways to peace in Ukraine, with hopes that a consensus proposal will be conveyed to Moscow.

In a Saturday statement, Zelensky stressed the necessity of international backing for any peace initiative.

“We must collectively define what a just peace means for the world and how it can be sustainably achieved,” he said, as reported by AFP. “This will then be communicated to Russian representatives.”

Striving for a Just Resolution

Ukraine is preparing a peace plan to potentially present at a subsequent peace conference, as per Kyiv Independent. However, the terms Ukraine seeks in any peace agreement markedly differ from those put forth by the Kremlin.

Among Zelensky’s pivotal demands are a complete Russian withdrawal from Ukraine and the prosecution of Russian individuals for war crimes committed during the conflict.

“Ukraine never wanted this war… The only one who wanted it was Putin. But the world is stronger,” Zelensky asserted.

Putin’s Conditions for Ceasefire

Ahead of the Swiss peace summit, President Vladimir Putin outlined his own conditions for a ceasefire and peace talks with Ukraine. His stipulations include Ukraine withdrawing all troops from Russian-occupied Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia. Additionally, Putin insists on the lifting of Western sanctions against Russia and Ukraine abandoning its NATO aspirations.
